Proposal to create a self-sustaining global organization of core universities
within the already well-established IALS - Life Sciences University Network:

Mission

The IALS ( see: http://www.lifesciences.net/ ) and especially the "IALS-University Network" as an interdisciplinary “Think-Tank” is

  • a future–forum for cutting-edge issues in the Life Sciences
  • a place for analysis and production of ideas and their diffusion by public understanding
  • a network generating a pool of experts by transdisciplinary approach.

Life Sciences Focus

The life sciences represent a cutting-edge inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary field. The life sciences build a bridge between the natural sciences and the humanities. This bridge is important regarding many aspects of the results of life sciences research and education, including: innovations in food technology, new medical technology and treatment options, and the diverse applications of biotechnology and gene technology. These dimensions will fundamentally change our personal and social lives. We feel that the methods and results of the life sciences deserve our special attention at this stage of global development.

The life sciences have the potential to open up new markets, areas of study and opportunities for education. Furthermore, developing and managing human resources in this sector has to take place in a cautious and responsible manner. IALS is committed to the innovative development of "skills for the future", a requirement if the life sciences are to develop within a globalizing world.
